Today's Everyday Fashion: Ruffles

As you may recall from a recent shopping post, I ordered both the pink ruffle top I'm wearing, and the matching skirt on clearance from Target. I was considering wearing them together as a dress, but this old ivory ruffle skirt had a similar fit and looked cute with the top, so to be economical I went this route instead. This skirt is not all that practical for errands, but I like it for a casual dinner or lunch. Sophisticated but still in comfy flats - now that's what I'm talkin' about! Where would you wear this look?

Shirt: Target, $13 (now $8)
Skirt: Urban Outfitters, $25
Belt: Gap, $10
Cardigan: H&M, $18 (similar)
Shoes: Diba/Nordstrom Rack, $40 (almost identical)
Necklaces: Banana Republic, My Stella & Dot website charm $17
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $49
Bracelets: Banana Republic $10, My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59

1. Urban Outfitters skirt, $19
2. Urban Outfitters skirt, $49
3. Urban Outfitters skirt, $54

  1. Cute outfit. I like the white skirt more than if you had paired it with the matching skirt.  PS - Your hair looks great wavy, and with the darker color!

  2. Thank you Kavi! Can't tell you how much I'm enjoying freedom from my straightener and from hair dye. It is completely au natural at this point! :-)

  3. This outfit is so darling! You look so great! How does the top fit?

Also, how did your order ship? UPS/FedEx or USPS?  Thanks :)

  4. Thanks Kate! I have on an XS, I would say it runs pretty true to size, and the straps are adjustable. I can't remember for the life of me if it came UPS or USPS though, sorry!

  8. I love checking in daily to see your new looks!  You're always so dolled up, do you always wear what you feature or do you sometimes just put on the outfit for blogging purposes?  I just started my own fashion blog (for moms on a budget), any advice?

  9. This is a great outfit.  The colour combo and ruffles give it a resort/island feel - love it.  It is definitely appropriate for a casual lunch date - preferably on the patio :).  I think I need to incorporate more ruffles into my wardrobe - this is as far as I have gone:  http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/05/its-all-in-details.html

I see how shirts especially, can give the illusion of a more curvier figure, which is wonderful.  I tend to have a more boyish frame with minimal curves.

  10. I really really like this look. To be honest, I wasn't too thrilled about this top when I saw it in your last post but I have to say it looks incredible on you. I also think it goes very well with your skirt. But I'm with you, this look is way to cute and chic for runing errands, I think I'd wear it for a lunch with the ladies or even a date. It also transitions nice from day to night: add heels and a clutch and it would be great for a night out.
Would you also wear it for a night out??

  11. Love the inspiration. You pretty much always wear belts even on "sweet" type outfits like today. Is it because you feel unfinished without a belt? Maybe you can do a few good outfits without belts that still look put together. A belt can be super unflattering depending on the body type so knowing how to look "finished" without one is a good skill!

  12. This is such a great outfit on you! Ruffles can easily become overpowering or clown like when not done correctly but, you've made it look effortless and chic! Great look!

  16. Cute! How does the top fit? What's the length? Would it fit a tall girl of 5'10"?

  17. Question for you...I noticed that you are wearing a belt that you have to pull well past the holes. I had this problem the other day. I was looping it around similar to how you have in this pic. The problem was that the little metal piece that goes through the holes had to go above the belt and poke out the top. You don't seem to be having that problem. What's your solution?

  18. TEL, check out this video where I explain how I do it. I just move the prong over, I never punch new holes: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/11/video-how-to-belt-cardigan_12.html

  19. Katie, yes actually this top is quite long and has adjustable straps so I def think it would work for someone who is 5'10".

  20. Mia, I would wear this top for a night out. I might style it with shorts and heels though, and definitely no cardigan and a clutch!

  27. Thank you Lori! I stopped putting blonde highlights in it a year ago, and the past month I stopped straightening it and just letting it go naturally wavy.  :-)
