This is what I wore for an appearance on Life Love Shopping, a nationally syndicated show that aired on WE tv yesterday morning! (GO HERE to watch it.) I stumbled upon a plethora of colorful Calvin Klein sheaths at TJ Maxx in February (picture here), and chose this blue color. I don't usually buy dresses that need to be altered, but I made an exception because none of the sizes fit correctly, and a perfectly fitting work-appropriate sheath was a good investment considering my job (form-fitting bright colors look best on camera) and current closet (the majority of my dresses are not long enough for work). I felt comfortable in this look, and it kept my mind off what I was wearing so I could concentrate on dressing the models. :-) What is your go-to work dress?
Dress: Calvin Klein/TJ Maxx, $50 plus $25 alterations
Watch: Michael Kors, family giftRings: My Stella & Dot website $69 and $49
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $39 and $32
1. Limited dress, $98
2. Calvin Klein dress, $89.98 (also comes in black)
3. Modcloth dress, $54.99

Such a pretty dress - what a great find! You look amazing, and congrats on the experience!
ReplyDeleteThat dress fits you perfectly, and I love how you accesorized the whole look. It looks so appropriate for the occassion. I also love how you kept your hair simple and straight.
ReplyDeleteI love sheath dresses but they do not work for the way I dress. So instead, I usually wear maxi dresses and pair them with a simple blazer. In the summer, I tend to have fun with colourful print dresses like here: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/06/retro-rendition.html, and in the cooler months I gravitate to more solid colour dresses.

I'm all about alterations, but I've grown used to needing them. I'm ft tall with a pant inseam of 28" for flats and, let me tell you, they are IMPOSSIBLE to find that short! I also have to take everything up because I have a 36D chest and little bitty hips...it gets old and EXPENSIVE to have everything fixed, but I've decided that there is no way around it for me!
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is amazing! You look pretty beautiful! ♥

I love your dress, it's so pretty and the color is stunning. Great choice for a tv appearance! :-) You're a show stopper!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite work dress since I never wear dresses at work. I'm a social worker so dresses are not the way to go. My fave work outfit would be cute pants or jeans and tailored blazers with super sweet and stylish wedged booties instead.
Great Poise on the show! The make-up artist needs a little more practice in front of a camera. But you did great!
ReplyDeleteAmazing blog.

ReplyDeleteJ! You look absolutely stunning, like always! Congrats on your TV appearance.. You're so amazing =D My go to dress is a fitted BCBG dress. It's blue and has a cute print! I'll make sure to feature it on my blog sometime =D It makes me feel very mad-men-esque if that makes sense, haha?

ReplyDeleteLove the blue dress.
ReplyDeletecan you do an entry on fall 2012 trends? I am having trouble deciding what are essential pieces for the fall that I should get that will last through the winter vs. what is just in at the moment.
Thanks Jen! Here is a link to my post about fall 2012 trends: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/08/fall-2012-shopping-guide-under-100.html
ReplyDeleteThank you! The segment was about fall fashion and I used my clothes to dress the models. That is why she is wearing a similar outfit. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds adorable Kimberly!
ReplyDeleteAlterations are definitely key for some body types, unfortunately! Having clothes that fit properly is really important though so I'm glad you are making the effort. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat brand is the military jacket from the video- its really cute!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color and the ruffles are great! I just picked up a CK sheath dress at Marshall's (black and pink color block). Love it.
ReplyDeleteYou look great!
ReplyDeleteZepequeña.
Totally agree with you. I was going to ask you if you were satisfied with the alteration and if yes, where did you take it. I have been looking for a good alteration place for like forever. (I live in Orlando)
ReplyDeleteJ! Could you please have a post about boots too? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dress! You look amazing and the show with your segment was terrific! Congrats!

I'm having a giveaway on my blog if you're interested :)
I have the Calvin Klein dress with one ruffle... This is my go-to dress! I wear it whenever I want to feel polished and pretty. :)
ReplyDeletelove that dress and that color! i have a one in a similar color from Express with a one shoulder and an extreme sleeve, as i like to call it. do you have any tips on finding a good tailor? i've asked around but i feel like most of the options are at dry cleaners and i don't always trust that they'll do the best job on important pieces.
ReplyDeletethat dress looks gorgeous on you!! xo

major ♥ for that dress j! well worth the alterations and congrats on your tv appearance - it's so wonderful to follow your journey and successes
ReplyDelete♥ ThankFifi
i'm loving the wavy looking ruffles right now...can't wait to acquire a few more pieces with them for fall!

J, I love your dress! In fact, when I saw your blog posting for today, I (gasped) because I have the same dress (in red) and actually wore it to a wedding this past weekend! Super comfy, and super gorgeous! You look amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress! The color and ruffles are great! I think it could have been styled better without the necklace. Its competing with the ruffles. A great pair of earrings or a sleek cuff (without the other arm candy) would have been FAB! Congrats on your segment! Great job.
ReplyDeleteGreat Dress!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful dress! I love sheaths because you can change it up by adding a top or necklace.

G.R.E.A.T. work, J.----you're so relaxed on-air and informative!! I understand the time constraints with national TV............ (because Time = $$Money!!)............ but I wish the national TV Producers could maybe "slow down" their Fashion & Makeup segments just a little bit; then I think the audience would have more time to really appreciate the *beauty* of Fashion & Makeup............ instead of the emphasis (seemingly) being more on "The-Hurriedly-Puttin'-It-Together-And/Or-Applyin'-It" of Fashion & Makeup!! That's why I like the Fashion Videos you personally produce, i.e., because----although they DO crisply "flow"----there's NOT that rush-rush-rush "feel", as in current national TV!! (I hope this makes sense!!)
ReplyDeleteYour blue dress with it's crossbody cascade ruffle............ (i.e., progressing from a *triple*-down-to-a-*double*-ruffle!!)............ is just beautiful; and so *sophisticated* with your clear rhinestone necklace/bracelets and black sueded-fabric pumps!! Maybe YOUR "purple-love" is rubbing off on ME, or something, J., (haha!!); but when I looked at the first "similar" link after "Shoes: Colin Stuart c/o MJR Sales, $24," (Above)............ I wondered if the D.E.E.P. PURPLE Michael Antonio Women's Kusuma Open-Toe Pumps might also be another (feasible) option, too............ with your pretty blue dress!!
Love the dress and your segment was great. How many times did the woman doing the makeup segment say "go ahead and..."? Didn't anyone give her any coaching before going on air? Good job and I love that military jacket!
ReplyDeleteThat color looks absolutely fabulous on you, but I agree with Mjmfleming, I think that when there is detailing(beading, sequins, excess fabric) anywhere around the neck necklaces should be avoided and a knock out pair of earrings used instead.
ReplyDeleteYou look fab! I own the Calvin Klein dress you featured, but I got it from Marshalls for $50. I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to see you on video after following your blog for so long. You are such a natural in front of the camera!
ReplyDeleteI specfiically found this post so that I could tell you that I found this dress at TJMaxx last week!!! it was on clearance for $25! bets believe I scooped that up in a hurry!!!! LOVE IT!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting! This is the same dress I'm wearing in my new head shots with Erika Barker! I love it. :-)
