I wore this to church and errands yesterday. |
After a frenzy of online browsing last week (as seen in this post), I headed to the mall to check some things out in person! The Limited striped shirt I'm wearing was on my wish list, and although I was initially a tad disappointed (the quality wasn't as high as I thought and I also didn't realize the stripes were black), I decided I liked it enough to keep it anyway. The destroyed American Eagle jeans I originally had my eye on were not what I was envisioning (too much Spandex - I prefer thick cotton denim). But these jeans were absolutely perfect! The wash is what I would expect from designer jeans, fingers crossed that they keep their color. (I would also recommend sizing down if you order them. I'm usually between sizes at American Eagle - a size 4 is slightly too big, a size 2 is too small, but the size 2 fit perfect, no muffin top.)
This look also got me dreaming about owning my first black handbag, because I would've loved to wear one with this outfit. A few I am drooling over are below, and my plan is to scour TJ Maxx/Nordstrom Rack/etc. for a similar leather bag for less this winter. What color handbag would you wear with this outfit?
Shirt: Limited, $31
Jeans: American Eagle, $25
Earrings: Orlando boutique (similar)Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Rings: My Stella & Dot website $69 and $49
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $34 and $32
1. Rebecca Minkoff purse, $495
2. Marc Jacobs satchel, $478
3. Coach handbag, $358
Love this look! It's very simple but so classic and stylish. Pops of color are always fun. Cobalt, mustard or green would look great with this look
ReplyDeleteI think I have the same jeans and sadly they have not held their deep color but on the plus side the color they've faded to is still nice. I would think a hot pink purse would be a nice pop of color, or keep it somewhat monochromatic with silver or black.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is perfection. I absolutely adore the simple life sometimes. I loved this shirt the first time I laid eyes on it and should have purchased it then but I found other stuff and completely forgot about it and walked right out the store. Eagerly awaiting the next sale. Lol
ReplyDeletetry washing them inside out, with like colors. that is what they state on the tag for dark wash denim. also, make sure you wash with like colors. try woolite for darks as well
ReplyDeleteLove the top!! i also am in love with that coach handbag on the right. although i think the white one looks good!
ReplyDeletelove the stripes! you look amazing.

Love the shirt and shoes :)

I've got that same blouse on today. I saw it on another blog a couple of days ago too. So I decided to snatch it up.
ReplyDeleteLove that shirt, just got it a week ago too! And that Marc Jacobs bag- totally worth the splurge!http://coffeebeansandbobbypins.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteoh no, I think it's the darkened details on the bag you chose that make the look, playing off the narrow stripes.
ReplyDeleteAmazing outfit, looks great! ♥
ReplyDeleteBlack would be a great handbag, but also a pop of color could be fun! Love that shirt!

That blouse is LOVELY!!!! You look absolutely beautiful. And your white bag actually goes really well with the outfit, but if I had to pick another color I would probably do either a mustard or tobacco colored bag for a bit of contrasting color :)

I would wear a bright handbag to give the outfit a pop of color!
ReplyDeleteLove the simple outfit. My biggest problem with on-line shopping is that you never know how something will fit. Glad you found something you liked.

Turn your jeans inside out when you wash them and it'll help keep the color! Also, no dryer!

This top looks great on you. I like the pattern but when I tried it on...it was just too busy for me. Kind of weird since I wear stripes all the time.

Great outfit. I would definitely wear a black bag but I am somewhat boring. Side note: I find it incredible that you don't have a black handbag :)
ReplyDeleteOne word: Gorgeous! I really adore the striped shirt. I'm into stripes anyway, so no wonder I like that top as well. I love that you tucked it into the jeans. Those look great but in my opinion they could be a little tighter around the ankles or one or two inches shorter. So it would look cleaner and polished.
ReplyDeleteI would wear a black handbag with this look for sure. I like the Marc Jacobs bag, it looks great and seems to be pretty versatile. Im surprised you don't own a black bag. I don't have a lot of bags but I have three black ones because they simply go with everything. But sadly I'm missing a neutral one that goes with my oh so many neutral shoes ;-)
This is such a cute Outfit
ReplyDeleteOk, you've sold me and that blouse must be mine. <3
ReplyDeleteLindsayLindsayJEveryday.blogspot.com
I'd carry a bight colored: red, pink, yellow purse/handbag to add a pop of color. I like how everything else is black and white. LOVE the outfit!! :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought those jeans on Saturday! Love them!
ReplyDeleteoh i LOVE this classic look, j. huge fan!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip Sheena!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sasha! I hardly ever wear black (unless at night, and in that case I own a black clutch). But yeah, I'm a black handbag virgin at this point!!
ReplyDeleteI really love this shirt. I have it and have worn it with jeans as well as under a black peplum dress that doesn't have sleeves. I can't get enough b&w stripes and polka dots right now!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit! But I've got to ask about the shoes... You said you wore this to church and errands. Church--okay--that doesn't involve a lot of walking. Errands on the other hand......... I've found that the only shoes that stick around in my closet, and that I am comfortable wearing, are ones that I have to spend probably $75 or more on. I'm always noticing--especially in the summer--that your shoes look fashionable, yet comfortable. These, though, look a little painful (at least to my feet!). So what's your philosophy on buying/wearing shoes? Do you let your feet suffer for the style? Or do you have some tips on really comfortable, stylish shoe brands that you tend to stick with?
ReplyDeleteThanks Katy! These were originally $150 shoes, I just got them for a steal via MJR Sales, and they are way, way comfy. That's how I prefer to shop for shoes, I never buy from Payless, but instead get brand names for less. because quality materials matter a lot when it comes to footwear! See this post for 5 ways I determine the comfort of a shoe - http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/05/todays-everyday-fashion-how-to-select.html
ReplyDeleteBlack is always classic but a burgundy/wine color would be great for fall too! A few months ago I got a black purse from Francesca's thats almost identical to the RM one and I love it!
ReplyDeletea bag with some COLOR!! i love teal, burgundy, neon, anything to just add that eye catching pop :-)
ReplyDeleteThe black coach bag is definitely my favorite!!!!! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteTo keep the color wash them inside out and use very little laundry detergent and NO fabric softener or dryer sheets. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have a camel bag that I would carry with this outfit. I went jean hunting this weekend too at J Crew and failed miserably, I'll have to check these AE ones out!
ReplyDeleteMay I ask what size shirt? Very much want to order and we look like a similar size!
ReplyDeleteLove your shirt! Definitively getting one ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the Marc Jacobs. Totally worth it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, XS with plenty of room to spare (it's a roomy fit).
ReplyDeleteI love that striped blouse! it looks great on you! xo
ReplyDeletehttp://allthingsprettyandlittle.blogspot.com/
LOVE the look like always. I'd probably style the outfit with a brighly colored bag, perhaps red? http://sensiblestylista.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI have a similar shirt and i love it! I thought the stripes were navy but now that they are black you can pretty much accessorize it with any bright color you choose! Loev reading your pots!
ReplyDeleteXO http://shesaidhesaid-fashion.blogspot.com/
I've found that American Eagle jeans keep their color, but they stretch out a ton and shrink back when you dry them.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog postings.. we have very similar taste in clothing! :) I think you will love the AE skinnies, I have 2 of these in the same color for a year and they have held up wonderfully. I was just at The Limited on Friday and snagged some awesome deals from their peel a deal and my CC rewards!
ReplyDeleteRose, I had one pair of AE jeans that completely lost their color after 2 washes, but I agree usually they hold up pretty well!
ReplyDeletelove this post! i hate that feeling too, I stalk something online and don't absolutely love it when i get it. but i love the stripes on you! simple and chic :)

I;m glad to see you wearing earings. I like the white bag.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute top, and GREAT jeans! Love the look! Check us out at www.dreamboatfashion.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLove this look. I've always been into nautical striped but I very rarely pair them with anything black. This outfit is taking a different spin on it and I love it!

Have you tried shopping the Coach Factory Store online? It is their outlet store online. Their inventory changes constantly but their prices are really good. I recently got one of their 'duffles' for $111, original price was like $250.

Love this outfit! But it makes me yearn for cooler weather, which is probably still weeks away.
ReplyDeletewith this outfit I would actually pair it with a bright bag, like yellow or something. The outfit is such a nice neutral your bag could be a fun addition of color.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I invested in a Michael Kors Hamilton Tote (in black) last winter and I honestly can't imagine needing another black bag, it's just perfect!
The outfit is great. But how do you NOT own a black purse?! I like that you paired this with the white bag, or you could totally pair it with a luggage colored bag. But a black bag is a staple! You picked 3 great options.

I'm in love with this outfit - I think the chic classic looks are your best so I would love to see more like this. And I find it hard to believe you would have a muffin top - you're tiny!
ReplyDeleteSimple and classy! I love the top. xo

I really like this outfit, but I would feel compelled to wear a belt...what are the rules on when or when NOT to wear a belt? I feel like I might be over-doing it lately :-(
ReplyDeletewww.mrsskeelsdeals.blogspot.com
Love love this outfit! I may go out this weekend and purchase it!
ReplyDeleteChelsea, it's really up to you when you wear a belt! One thing to remember about fashion is that there is never a right and wrong answer. :-) It was an easy decision for me not wear one because 1. I was craving a more simple look and 2. my only black belt is very "busy" and didn't go with the casual vibe of this outfit. I think a belt could've worked though!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! And I really believe that anyone can have a muffin top if their pants are too tight. ;-) I hate it when they are digging into me/my skin even the slightest bit.
ReplyDeletered, yellow, or emerald green for sure!
ReplyDeleteHaha I know! I never wear black for day (I do have a black clutch for night), so I've gotten by with neutrals like this white one for so long. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you! We had a "fall preview" yesterday thanks to Isaac (the tropical storm) so it was nice and cool! :-)
ReplyDeleteDo you own a lot of AE jeans? If so, do you find that the sizing is totally random? I had a small shopping spree there about two weeks ago, and walked out with several pairs of pants ranging in sizes from 00 to a 6, lol. I wonder if it's just me?
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! It's so classic.
If I were wearing your outfit with your black-and-white Striped Split-V Blouse, I'd keep my white purse; but then I'd put my "pop of color" next to my face with your simple, non-fussy jade green Serenity Stone Drop Earrings............ (i.e., http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_en_us/e168gr.html?s=jspage ; and also as in your 7/2/12 post, too: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/07/todays-everyday-fashion-green-jeans.html )!!
ReplyDeleteBlack and white seems to look good with almost *every* color; so although I'd wear your JADE green Serenity Stone Drop Earrings now, (i.e., right before FALL starts)............ if I were wearing your outfit at the beginning of SPRING instead............ I might wear a pair of (Spring green) PERIDOT earrings instead, you know!!
You could probably walk down the streets of Paris in this gorgeous outfit, J.; and just............ *t.u.r.n. h.e.a.d.s.*!!
I would do a coloured purse in burnt orange or a pretty green. Maybe even a croc in yellow?
ReplyDeleteI would do gold or the orange/brown
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the shirt. You said it was $31. I clicked on the link & it shows $49.90. Am I doing something wrong?
ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to seeing your opinion of the destroyed AE jeans. After your post last week, I ran out and bought them. My husband loved them, but I could NOT figure out what to wear with them! I'm glad I won't be seeing you wear them with something really cute to make me regret my return ;).
ReplyDeleteI think both are great finds--that shirt seems so versatile, and a great pair of jeans is always a gem to find! I think any color handbag would work with that look!
ReplyDeleteStacy, the prices listed are what I paid for them! :-) There was an in-store promo this weekend, and on the website the shirt was $26, so I'm guessing the price went back up. Try code WOW45 for 45% off though, a reader just posted that code yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI own a few AE jeans and shorts, and I agree the sizing isn't totally consistent! I think all of mine are either a 2 or 4, so not as big of a range, but it is certainly hard to order online from them because I never know what size to get!
ReplyDeleteHey J! Been reading your blog for several months now but haven't commented yet. A tip if you don't do it already: hand wash good dark denim in the tub with cold water and Woolite, then allow to air dry overnight. Takes extra time but it sure does prevent shrinkage and dramatic fading. And I'm guessing the air dry part is easier for me (Arizona's good for that) than Florida, but who knows?
ReplyDeleteLove the classic black and white stripes! I own those AE jeans and absolutely love them!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower and I love your blog (as someone who admittedly needs to revamp her style after 3 kids!). I think any color handbag would work - I'm currently in love with yellow, or red!
ReplyDeleteI really like the white handbag with this outfit :)
ReplyDeleteJ,
ReplyDeleteLove the blog! Not sure if you know this laundry trick, but if you wash your dark jeans inside out, zipped and buttoned, you can help slow down fading.
Michele
What about the red/orangeish shirt you ordered from old navy? How would you wear that?
ReplyDeleteLove this look!
ReplyDeleteNatalia, http://my-crazy-idea.blogspot.com
Wendy, probably not keeping that shirt but searching for a similar version soon. I want to wear it with lavender, mint, navy polka dots or stripes, and yellow/brown to name a few!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks so much! I saw this comment and had a 40% off coupon and was planning to get this shirt after seeing your post (you're adorable btw!) but this one worked so I got an extra 5% thanks to you! Woohoo! :) Love your blog by the way! I am challenged when it comes to pairing things together. I have a closet full of clothes, but tend to wear the same things together b/c I get stuck in a rut. You inspire me to switch it up ever since I've found your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteThis article was exactly what I needed!
ReplyDeleteBright red hand bag would be awesome! so would a golden yellow. You always want a little pop of color ;)
ReplyDeletewasnt sure how to find certain posts, can you point me in the direction of the one you posted in regards to photo shoot outfits? im trying to figure out what to wear for an engagement shoot. thanks!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, everything is listed in my Table of Contents tab above! :-) Here is a link to that post - http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/01/what-to-wear-for-photo-session.html
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit!!!! Sadly the striped top is $49.50 at my Limited store otherwise I would have purchased that bad boy! :)
