Today's Everyday Fashion: Work It

I've been doing tons of casual looks lately, so I decided to share a work look today! I was smitten with these polka dots on Pinterest, and they inspired me to put this combo together from my closet. I (obviously) didn't follow the formula exactly, so the good news is that you can do the same in your own closet! Try mixing a lace bottom with a pastel polka dot top, or a polka dot top with a pastel bottom. Also - I think my necklace might be too busy for some personal preferences, but my style definitely tends to fall on the accessory-heavy side. I like using them to put my personal stamp on looks, and the touch of mint up top gives this look an Anthro vibe. Which way would you wear it?

  16. I pinned this inspiration photo on Pinterest as well.  I love the vintage look of the outfit and her peep toe shoes.  Your version is definitely more modern and hip and I like to color combination and the polka dots.  I appreciate the work look today, I'm always looking for inspiration for work wear.

  18. See - this is why I love your blog. I actually have that top! And the most creative I have gotten with it was wearing it with white shorts. I tend to be very "matchy-matchy". Black shirt, black shoes. Navy polka dots, navy skirt. You have really opened my eyes and I am trying new color and pattern combos now. Thank you!

  21. Love this outfit!  And I love your blog.  I hope to put some of your beautiful fashion choices into motion soon.  I worked in a super casual office but was recently laid off.  I'm hoping I'll be able to dress up a bit more with my next job.  I know I'll be utilizing your blog throughout the transition!  Keep it up!

  22. Thank you! And so sorry to hear about your job! When I got laid off about a year ago, it turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise. I hope the same rings true for you! Good luck with your search! :-)

  23. I love the look and I love the necklace! It has just the right amount of color to make it pop and it matches your skirt so perfect! I really think something would be missing if you didn't wore the necklace. Great job. But I think the belt looks nicer in the inspiration picture. Usually, I like the way you belt it, but it's more casual cool and doesn't match the chic work look, in my opinion. Also well done with the neutral accessories. :-)

  48. This is one my favorite outfits that you've posted! I am always afraid mixing colors, but you do it so well!
You usually tuck your shirts in(I never do). How do you choose which shirts to tuck-in and which to leave out?
    -Stacy

  49. Thanks Stacy! It's not so much the shirt, as it is the bottom I'm wearing with the shirt. i like leaving loose tops out when I'm wearing skinny jeans, but with a pencil skirt I usually need to either tuck the shirt or belt it to avoid it looking sloppy. This also has to do with my body type, though. If I had a larger bust size, this XS shirt would actually be filled out how it is intended, and it likely wouldn't need to be tucked. It's loose though, so either tucking or a belting is needed if I'm wearing this top with a pencil skirt. Hope this helps!
