I've always wanted to try wearing a cardigan as a shirt, but I never seem to remember this trick while I'm in my closet! I credit the inspiration photo from Club Monaco for motivating me to finally give it a try. I think nude or blush pumps would be a great way to soften and dress up this look, but I also like the rugged brown leather accents paired with the feminine pieces. Have you ever worn a cardigan as a shirt?

ReplyDeletei love this look. i never think to wear cardigans as a shirt. i think even some colorful accessories could brighten the look up and take it from day to night :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I have! I think it works best when the cardigan is v-neck, though. The last time I did, I wore a cobalt cardigan with a citron lemon skirt and one of my students said I looked like Snow White! It did give me an idea for inspiration... fictitious female characters! I know you've done a Wonder Woman look before, but you should try a Disney princess or one of your favorite childhood characters!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely! Sometimes I find a camisole breaks up the clean lines of a look. You look so pretty in this outfit!
ReplyDeleteI must tell you that I have been following your blog for over a year, and you are fabulous!
I really like this look on you a lot! The colors make it so feminine and soft : )

The heels and the cardigan are beautiful! ♥
ReplyDeleteYes, I love cardigans worn as a shirt too! As long as they are fitted, it works very well! Your outfit is great and I am so obsessed with that skirt! xx

Love this combination of neutral colors - I can't get enough of pleated skirts right now!! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it yet but have been meaning to ever since I saw Kelley from Threads and Buttons wear a cardigan like that.
ReplyDeleteLove this look! You're wearing all of my favorite things: polka dots, pleats, and cardigans :-)

I have been dying for a pleated skirt. I'm not a fan of the three alternates, but love the one you are wearing from express. The Nordstrom skirt is too long, I do not like hi-low skirts, and the limited one just isn't right (it's a gut feeling). Anymore suggestions? I also agree, you are fabulous. I check your blog every day.
ReplyDeleteI haven't ever tried this because I wear cardigans with dresses most of the time and there isn't any way to tuck them in, or with pencil skirts and I'm afraid it will add too much bulk underneath. I just picked up a flowy, nautical-inspired skirt and think I'll try it with a tucked-in cardigan as the extra bulk won't show. I love this look you've put together, and wish that skirt was still available!
ReplyDeleteI wear cardigans all the time, but I haven't tried a cardigan as my only top. I'd like to though, I just need to find the right one. I'd probably have to do it in the fall or winter though. Springtime in Texas is not too much different than summertime in Texas. Cute cardigan!
ReplyDeleteThe threat of gappage for those of us with bigger chests make this a difficult option.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this outfit! I hadn't thought of wearing a cardigan just as a shirt but I have one from Target that is similar to yours (but in teal with flower accents on the side). I would probably have to wear something under it for modesty purposes. Would love to get a pleated skirt! The Nordstrom one is a good option- thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love this look! Perfect for the office. I may try to recreate it for myself.
ReplyDeleteI have done this a lot lately (here: http://work-it-blog.blogspot.com/2012/04/workin-50s.html), and I love it!

Those socks on the mannequin... haha

Lol. Totally forgot about those. I should've rocked some socks with my sandals, right? :-)
ReplyDeleteMary, I totally agree. I advise only doing this with cardigans that are plenty roomy and don't gap. You could also wear a low-cut cami underneath that's hidden from sight but there for back-up in case a button slips!
ReplyDeleteYes, excellent point! This wouldn't work with a pencil skirt because of the bulk of the sweater when you tuck it in. Perfect for pleated or full skirts though!
ReplyDeleteNiki, those were the only 3 under $100 that I could find. And mine is pretty old. :-( I'm guessing more stores will put them out this summer though, I'll keep an eye out for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenny! You are so sweet and I'm so glad to have you as a reader for all that time! :-)
ReplyDeleteKate, there is an image on Pinterest going around of outfits inspired by Disney Princesses, it cracks me up!!
ReplyDeletevery cute! I love cardigans but I always wear it over something! I'll have to try this!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using a cardigan as a shirt! It opens up so many new outfits with what's already in my closet. Great pleated skirt.

I do wear one as a top sometimes but I still always wear a cardigan underneath. Love how you paired it here!
ReplyDeleteLove this look! Wearing a card as a shirt totally expands your wardrobe too, great idea.
ReplyDeleteI am loving those skirts. You look adorable. I really liked that look.

ReplyDeleteYour pretty cardigan/skirt pairing is not only feminine-yet-strong, but also classic, i.e., in the same way that Princess Grace of Monaco's style is *c.l.a.s.s.i.c.*, too............ (and, yes, you DO remind me of Princess Grace, J.)!!:

I do this all the time, but I always wear a no-show tank underneath, just to be safe.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try wearing a cardigan as a shirt, but I never seem to remember this trick while I'm in my closet! !And I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove this look, never even thought of wearing the cardigan as the only top. I'm pretty busty though so I'd be afraid of a little peek-a-boo action through the buttons...
ReplyDeleteI just bought those Chinese Laundry shoes that you had as similar to yours in black! :) I love all of your outfits!
ReplyDeleteI love this picture! So much
