Today's Everyday Fashion: Playing in my Closet
I love spending time in my closet experimenting with new combinations! This neon yellow-orange-purple color scheme popped into my head one day, and I decided to try some different ways to style it. I reached for my gold boat shoes for a "sporty" look (left) first, which I think would work for a picnic, or a mom on-the-go. I then decided to dress it up with heels and a brightly colored scarf, for a nice lunch or a casual meeting (the skirt is probably too short for work). I like both options and think there are many ways to wear it! How would you wear it?

Shirt: c/o Ross, $5
Skirt: c/o LOFT, $30
Shoes left: White Mountain c/o Ross, $25 (similar)

Right hand bracelet: Banana Republic, $10
Scarf right: c/o Happy Scarf, $24

Hi J are you a stylist for Stella and Dot?
ReplyDeleteGreat looks! The second option with the heels and the scarf I like best. ;)
ReplyDeletebeautiful colors..^__^

I always enjoy when I see your posts and immediately get inspired - today's moment, boat shoes with a skirt! I'll be playing in my closet later :)
ReplyDeleteYou should do more of these posts - different ways to wear an outfit. You look awesome as always! I read other fashion blogs, but yours is the only one I read each day! Thanks for all the wonderful ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI am obsessed with the bright colors. I can't get enough. Question for you though - how to you wash and keep your sweaters so nice? I am having a heck of a time and would love some tips!!
ReplyDeleteI am in search of a red skirt! Only mine needs to be a bit longer. I could never get away with wearing that length to work as an elementary teacher. Cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteTiffany, I just had to lol - I wrote this post at 4am after falling asleep after the KU game, and then waking back up. I recommend the outfit for a teacher, but then I also say the skirt is too short for work - a tad contradictory, no? I'm going to edit the post now, and also just a heads up the skirt is actually neon orange, not red! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge believer in Dryel - it's way less harsh on your clothes than traditional dry cleaning and it's pretty cheap, too. I also pretty much never dry my "nice" clothes in the dryer, I let everything air-dry!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...neon yellow? neon orange? purple? and gold boat shoes to tie it all together. I think I would only be able to get away with wearing all those colors together today on April 1st. lol. I think the main problem here is you look good in just about anything you put on! haha
ReplyDeleteGreat combination of colors! Both outfits are so cute. Love the choices of shoes. ;)

How did you get a Banana Republic cardigan for $12?
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, here is a link to my "secrets of shopping at Banana Republic" post! I bought this cardigan two years ago and utilized tips #1, 3 and 5: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/04/todays-everyday-fashion-secrets-of.html
ReplyDeleteThe scarf really ties everything together! That's definitely my favorite of the two.
ReplyDeleteI love the purple sweater!
ReplyDeleteJ - would you use Dryel for really delicate items, like cashmere? Love those metallic shoes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for not answering the first comment/ question posted!!!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought to pair purple, red and yellow together in one outfit.
ReplyDeleteLove all the color!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any 100% cashmere items, so I can't say for sure! Check out the Dryel FAQ though, looks like cashmere should be okay: http://dryel.com/read-the-faqs/#irfaq_20_691c6
ReplyDeleteI love this! Great post, and love the colors. I am a new follower.

I really, really *love* your outfit on the LEFT, because in addition to it working for a picnic, or for a Mom on-the-go, it would also............ (and I KNOW this might sound a little bit "OFF the beaten path," J., haha!!)............ simply be *G.R.E.A.T.* for visiting elderly female relatives and/or friends, e.g., like Grandmothers & Great-Aunts............ (and I think even Grandfathers & Great-Uncles, too, would also like your brightly-colored outfit!!)............ so, hopefully, everyone reading here might just go ahead and TRY it sometime!! (I *wish* my own beloved Grandmas were both still alive, because I actually would wear the outfit to visit them, you know............ and I can just "see" them both............ smiling broadly AT my brightly-colored outfit, too!!)
ReplyDeleteFor the "dressier version" (for myself), I'd maybe replace the scarf and pendant necklace............ (i.e., although I LOVE them both, and would definitely wear them with other outfits, for sure!!)............ with a shorter necklace~~to nestle-right-in the neon yellow shirt's V-neckline~~that had some "yellow" stones and/or crystals in it, such as your gorgeous yellow-and-clear-crystals goldtone necklace, in the third photo of your 10/14/10 blogpost: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/10/peek-inside-my-jewelry-box.html Then, I'd button #6 (of the #7) buttons of the deep V-neck purple cardigan, maybe leaving the *bottom* button UNbuttoned............ so that less of the neon yellow shirt would actually be "showing"............ and I'd also belt the cardigan with a thin purple belt----(i.e., even if the purples didn't "match" exactly)----like the purple belt in your blogposts of 6/2/10 and 10/25/10: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/06/todays-everyday-fashion.html and http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/10/todays-everyday-fashion_25.html , respectively!!
love the version with the scarf!
