Today's Everyday Fashion: Super Power Stripes
It may look like an ordinary striped shirt, but I'm convinced it has super powers. I originally ordered it thinking I wouldn't wear it that often but boy was I wrong! I wore it twice during my two-week trip to Europe and I still can't put it down. I layered it here with a white undershirt to make it stretch a bit and work with super low-rise cargos (otherwise my midriff would be showing). I also love that this outfit feels very fall and yet I'm still rocking the white blazer. Tell me - do you think stripes have super powers or are you passing on this trend?

I love this outfit! You look adorable. I love the look of stripes, but as someone who's a bit curvier (I'm a size 8/10) and only 5'3", I'm afraid that wearing a striped top will be unflattering. Do you have any tips for how I might wear a striped top like that JCrew one?
ReplyDelete9 striped shirts... Yup, that puts me on the bandwagon. And I agree, even with a white blazer you l
ReplyDeleteLOVE this outfit :) I am nuts for stripes, its pretty much the only print in my closet.
ReplyDeleteMy wardrobe used to be dominated by horizontal stripes. I literally had to put myself on a stripe moratorium. I had none left, but now I'm buying them again. I don't know if they give me superpowers, but I really find myself drawn to them.
ReplyDeleteBlack and white horizontal stripes always feel so cosmopolitan and Parisian to me. They make any outfit instantly chic. I love that you gave it your own twist with the skinny cargo pants!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I honestly think that adding a blazer or a cardigan like I did with today's look is going to be your best bet. It will break up the stripes and create the illusion of a smaller waist with only a little bit of the stripes peeking out.
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE fan of stripes! I own several striped shirts- and love how easy they are to layer and to mix with other pieces.
ReplyDeleteHa! They do have super powers. Today I'm wearing the BR striped tee (far right) and I feel super.
ReplyDeleteI love stripes...especially the way you wore it in this look!!!

Yes, striped shirts definitely do have super powers! I just wrote about how my stripes have become my new favorite staple, too: http://lizlovesclothes.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-new-favorite-shirt.html.
ReplyDeleteI love striped shirts and actually have to stop myself or else EVERY shirt I own would be striped. It's one of those "trends" that never really goes out of style! Cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteStripes DO have super powers! :-) I actually wore one yesterday with red skinny jeans and a black blazer. The best thing about b & w stripes?? It goes with everything!
ReplyDeleteYou look effortlessly cool as always J!!

I've been looking for the perfect black-and-white striped shirt. I have one from Forever 21 and one from Target, and I'm still trying to figure out which is the more amazing shirt. I may just keep them both.

Great idea wearing stripes with the khaki. Looks good! I don't get much further than pairing it with denim. I'll try being more adventurous with them now!

adorable! this is one of my favorite looks of yours. I HEART stripes, I think I own about 7 striped cardis and shirts.
ReplyDeleteI just love how you *layered* your striped shirt with a white undershirt here to............ make it "stretch a bit," (i.e., to cover your midriff with low-rise cargos)!! To me, the look of your white BLAZER----with your black-and-white striped SHIRT----with your white UNDERSHIRT............ is almost "seamless"; and genuinely pleasing to the eye. Your *amazing* creativity must simply be "bottomless," J!!
ReplyDelete((Incidentally, a few seasons ago, I bought THE prettiest medium *pine*-green cotton/rayon short-sleeve knit top, with (the same-color) satin-trim edging on the slightly-scooped neckline. I had all kinds of ways I *wanted* to wear the top, but then I washed it first, (according to label directions!!)............ and, boy, did it EVER shrink!! The top had been on sale; so I couldn't return it. I didn't know WHAT to do then; so I layered it *under* my long-sleeved, deep cranberry-colored, chunky waffle-knit shirt (from The Territory Ahead); and I STILL wear the deep cranberry/medium pine-green combo, (i.e., just casually with jeans), at Christmastime. Someday, maybe I'll figure out ANOTHER way to wear my pretty "shrunken" medium pine-green top, haha!!))
I love the cargo pant/blazer combo. I wouldn't have ever thought of mixing two such different elements!
ReplyDeleteLoving the stripes!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect weekend outfit!
My striped t is at least three years old (if not more) and I still LOVE it. I wear it at least once a week. I can't get enough. I actually can't believe it's still in great shape for as often as it gets worn and washed.
ReplyDeleteAnother stripe shirt to consider :)
