Today's Everyday Fashion: Mixing Prints
Oh, creativity. As a left-brain individual, it sometimes alludes me. And then at other times, it comes in a rush and takes me by surprise. Today's outfit is a result of the latter. I took my inspiration photo and I ran with it! I added a leopard belt and some yellow shoes. Dare i say it's even more creative than my inspiration photo? (or at least, daring) ;-) Turns out us left-brain folks can still churn out some fun stuff!
Styling tips: Mixing prints is all the rage right now, and leopard and polka dots is one easy way to do this. Try add a leopard accessory like shoes or a belt to your polka dot pieces for a fun twist!

ReplyDeleteI love your personal touches. Plus your polka dots are more interesting because they are also ruffly! I love ruffles!

ReplyDeleteI also LOVE your looks J. Feminine, work appropriate, and sexy all in one. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! It's like you read my mind - I was thinking about wearing polka dots with fushia today!! I love that you added the leopard print belt - it's unexpected!

Love that outfit! I have a question, and hopefully you haven't already covered it somewhere and I missed it. Do you get clothing tailored, or do you try and buy things that fit perfectly? Thanks! I love the fit and length of that skirt. (:
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! I wrote about mixing leopard print and polka dots in this post: http://www.chrissybryant.com/2011/03/29/trend-spotlight-mix-not-match/
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought it works, but it totally does. Of course, I've yet to see you put on an outfit you can't pull off. :-)
Would've never thought to put these together because of the differences in color and print. The yellow shoes bring it all together, I think.
ReplyDeleteI like your version a lot (much better than the original)! Even though there are several different elements, the outfit somehow comes together perfectly. Good job. :)

Ashley, I don't usually have clothes tailored. If they need to be fixed and it's something I can't do myself (I can do shorter straps and buttons) then I just don't buy it. I talked about having some Gap pants altered last fall, but that was only because they were final sale and I couldn't return them. :-) If you have a difficult body type though, a tailor can be a great investment!
ReplyDeleteDo you still stay in your fashion budget?
ReplyDeleteReally love this look! Have you seen any similar polk-a-dot shirts?? I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI saw one today... I was either at Forever 21 or Urban Outfitters, can't remember which! :-) If I see anything online I will let you know.
ReplyDeleteI do a post about my budget and what I spent each month, they are under "Favorite Posts and Videos" in the top right corner. Since my job ended in October, I don't usually spend more than $100/month.
ReplyDeleteyou've definitely inspired me to a) get some more skirts b) to get skirts that are colourful!!!
ReplyDeleteLove love this look J!! And yes I agree with you in that I like it way more better that the inspiration photo :)
ReplyDeleteso cute I love your polka dot blouse
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this look, J... But I have to admit, I'm not loving the shoes with the outfit. Lol. I'd have gone for a more neutral brown/cognac shoe.... or maybe grey or black? =D
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things to do is mix prints thanks to the blogging community.
ReplyDeleteWould have never been brave enough to do it without them
Brett
