Today's Everyday Fashion: Quirky

I love the quirkiness of this inspiration photo. (Are those Hammer pants?!) Red and turquoise are a favorite color combo of mine, so while her look is a little "wild," I still wanted to give it a try. I like my outfit, but I can't help but point out that I wish I was either wearing brown shoes or no belt. This skirt won't really stay in place without a belt, so maybe a belt that's a bit more discreet would have been better, or just a clothes pin to hold it up? {j/k} At any rate, quirky is the theme of the day, so I think I nailed it. *nailed it* Would you wear either of these looks in real life?

ps. I think I found the exact necklace she is wearing for $16 right here! (I kind of want to order it. I also want skirt #3 below.)

  12. Hi J! I just found your blog through Pinterest and I am a new follower! I just wanted to tell you that I love your style and I also love the fact that you are so real. I like the way you smile in photos and don't try to be too "model-y." You make me feel like I don't have to be serious or intense to try out fun colors and fashions!

  14. I love this look! I would definitely wear your outfit if I had the right pieces. I'm going to be on the lookout for something like them!

  16. Were your skirt, shirt, belt, shoes and purse all given to you? When they give them to you are you committed to wearing them in a post?

  17. I love what you did with her quirkiness!  I like taking a quirky piece and mixing it with a simple piece.  So, yes, I would wear your look!

  18. No, I don't mind the brown belt or the turquoise shoes, but the shoes and the bag are too matchy matchy for my tastes. Maybe a brown bag? Just sayin'. LOVE your blog tho and you are a fabulous fashion inspiration!!!

Thank you! :-) And we are actually both saying the same thing! Because if my shoes were brown, then my purse and shoes wouldn't both be a turquoise color. ;-)

  20. I am madly in love with this outfit! I would have never thought to put those pieces together, but they look so great.

  21. This is one of my favorite outfits of yours. I adore that skirt.

Not a fan of the shoes though. Like you said, I think some brown strappy shoes would go better.

  22. Hey J!
I love the red/turquoise combo. And that's a great skirt, why don't you have it altered? You'll get more use out of it if it fits well...BTW: You are fantastic. Love your blog and the consistently upbeat postings. Thanks.

Thanks Ellen, you are sweet! :-) I was thinking about having it altered, but with the elastic waistband I'm thinking it might be complicated and possibly expensive. Definitely something to consider though!

  24. I think I would wear this, but swap the shoes for some flats or sandals. They wouldn't have to be brown; maybe turquoise sandals like you wore recently?

PS: Have you considered doing a flashback Friday for one shoulder tops? I see them in a lot of stores, but have no idea how to wear them!

  25. Love it Katarina, my turquoise sandals are a great suggestion! And thank you for the Flashback Friday idea. I have a couple one-shoulder tops, but they are honestly not my favorite b/c they aren't very versatile. They don't look great under a cardigan or blazer, and they aren't work appropriate, so they really only work for nights or weekends. I will def consider it though! :-)

  27. J, yours is not as wild as you might think, you're just really conservative (which is fine, but don't freak out! :p). The necklace you found is also pretty cool. While it's not an exact match, it is quite similar, great job!
I love your outfit, as always, and YES! I would definitely wear it!:)

  28. I especially love the combincation of the bright top with the necklace. It looks incredible. But I'm with you on the belt and shoe thing. Maybe brown shoes would be nicer, I'm not quite sure though. Anyway, great look!

  29. I agree with you that different shoes would make this a win, but the top with your necklace is perfect.
